Fifteen fabulous half-term activities
8th February 2024
What does half-term mean to you?
Is it:
A) Bored sulking teenagers mooching around the house complaining there’s nothing to do?
B) Excited young children expectantly waiting for you to entertain them and find them a constant rush of fun and interesting things to do?
C) Or, is it the chance for you to turn the clock back and have a whole fabulous-fun week of being a child again as you entertain the children or grandchildren?
Whatever your definition of half-term is, here at Visit Weston we’ve got fifteen fabulous ideas to help you have a happy half-term holiday.
1) GLOW Festival of Light – Kids and adults will love this magical evening and night-time festival in Grove Park. With stunning light installations this is one of the highlights of the Weston-super-Mare calendar and it’s an added bonus that it comes in half term week. Admission is by pre-booked timed entry slots so get booking now or miss out.
2) Adventures in Time and Space – 60 Years of Doctor Who Art Exhibition – Big and little kids will find something to enjoy at this free exhibition at Weston Museum in Burlington Street.
3) Watch Re-enactments from the Roman era to WW2 in the courtyard of Weston Museum every day from Tuesday, February 13 to Friday, February 16 from 10:00 – 15:00 and it’s all free.
4) Step forward into a real-life video game at Laser Quest and experience the thrill and adrenaline rush of the ultimate laser adventure in Weston. This is as close as you can get to sparking even the most laid back of teenagers back into life.
5) Make a beeline for the Clip ‘n’ Climb indoor climbing centre. It has the daring Leap of Faith experience and the highest vertical drop slide in the UK! With brilliantly-trained instructors and some tamer challenges as well, this is a real fave with families and kids of all ages.
6) You mustn't miss a trip to The Grand Pier which is a one-stop action-packed entertainment centre perfect for school holidays. There’s rides aplenty, go-karts, dodgems, arcades, a laser maze, the bewildering mirror maze, and so much more all housed inside. Or you could discover what it's like to be a Formula One driver by having a go in the pier's F1 simulator, slide down the helter skelter or take a ride on the grizzly ghost train.
7) Discover your inner Rory McIlroy and take on crazy golf with a difference at the indoor Revo Glow in the dark crazy golf.
8) Try your hand at Ten-pin bowling at the Allstars Bowl. It is ideal if you’re looking for something for the whole family to enjoy and is another indoor activity.
9) What child isn’t fascinated by dinosaurs? Luckily the organisers of Dinosaurs by the Beach have, by popular demand, added an additional Thursday, February 15, 4.30pm time slot because their other sessions at The Tropicana have sold out. You’ll have to move fast though because this is expected to sell out as well.
10) Start the holiday off by doing something fun with the family at a 90-minute Saturday park play session at Castle Batch (9.30am-11am), Clevedon, Cherry Avenue Playground, (10.30am-12) or Ellenborough Park (11.30am-1pm). For more details see https://park-play.com/
11) Book an activity experience at one of our two excellent activity centres, Mendip or Wall Eden where you can try watersports, caving, shooting, archery and even wintersports.
12) Make some wild memories and have a full day out at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm.
13) Download the street art map and admire the stunning street art on the Weston Street Art Trail - we've got everything from a giant cockrel to massive sea-life scenes. Kids and adults alike will love it.
14) Head for Puxton Park for a fun-filled day out with its animals, soft play area and younger childrens' attractions.
15) Go underground and enjoy a magical caving experience at Wookey Hole. There's two ways you can do it. The conventional walk around tour or the exciting Wild Wookey experience where you may need to belly-crawl, cling on or abseil. In addition to the caves, Wookey also has a vintage arcade and the half-term Steampunk Circus with shows at 1 & 2pm.
