One of the great things about being in Weston-super-Mare is that it's the gateway to so many other interesting places in North Somerset. Many of these towns are accessible by bus.
Bus passes are accepted with the exception of Welsh bus passes.
Here's the bus timetable for journeys to Sand Bay from September 2, 2024. During good weather this Coaster service operates as an open top bus to enable passengers to make the most of this scenic route.
If you want to go to Burnham to see the country's shortest pier or its quirky lighthouse you will want the number 20 bus which goes via Brean and the Brean Splash centre. From September 2, 2024 this is the timetable that you will require for the Number 20 service to Burnham via Weston Hospital, Uphill, Lympsham, Berrow, Brean Leisure Park and Burnham.
For passengers fancying a day out exploring Bristol, here's the bus timetable for the X1 service from Weston to Bristol via Congresbury, Worle, Cleeve and Backwell from September 2, 2024.
From September 2, 2024 this is the X5 service from Weston to Portishead via Clevedon and Yatton and taking in Locking Castle, Worle and Congresbury. This is useful for Yatton railway station and the start of the Strawberry Line cycle and walking route which takes you out on a journey through the countryside to Axbridge and Cheddar slicing through the middle of the Thatcher's Cider orchards. The bus route also takes in Clevedon with its historic pier and cinema as well as the lovely Poet's Walk.
To get to Weston's Helicopter Museum you will want the 125 for the Helicopter Museum, Locking, Sandford, Churchill and Academy and Wrington from September 2, 2024 until further notice.
The popular Weston-super-Mare to Wells 126 bus service was reinstated in 2024 allowing passengers to easily get from Weston-super-Mare to Cheddar and also from Weston-super-Mare to the beautiful city of Wells which is England's smallest city. But what Wells lacks in size it more than makes up for with its attractions such as the Bishop's Palace, Vicars Close, the market square and its cathedral. The service also takes in the pretty village of Axbridge. From September 2, 2024 this is the timetable you will require for the 126 Weston-super-Mare to Wells via Uphill route. It is the same bus and timetable for the 126 Weston to Cheddar service.
The Number 7 Worle, Milton, Weston, Loxton Road and Haywood Village service to Locking Parklands route stops close to Weston Helicopter Museum. Here's the timetable which began from September 2, 2024.
The 51 service will take you from Weston-super-Mare to Wrington taking in Haywards Village, Locking Parklands, Winscombe, Sandford, Churchill and Langford. This is another service that is useful for the Helicopter Museum.
If you are heading for foreign shores, you will want the A3 Weston to Bristol Airport route taking in Worle, Worle station, Congesbury and Cleeve. This timetable is valid from September 2, 2024.
If you want to go to Noah's Ark Zoo Farm or Tyntesfield House you will need to catch two buses. You will need the X5 to Clevedon where you will change onto the X6 service to Bristol These times are valid from September 2, 2024.
If you are buzzing around town. The Number 6 Weston to Worle service is a useful route. From September 2, 2024 here is the timetable for that Number 6 Weston to Worle service via Mead Vale, Worle High Street and Upper Brstol Road.
The Number 9 service takes passengers from Weston to Hutton Moor, Worlebury/Weston Woods and West Wick. Here's the timetable which is valid from September 2, 2024.
Other routes which may be of interest are the X8 and X9 Nailsea to Bristol services from September 2, 2024 until further notice.
For people living or staying in Clevedon there's the X6 and X7 service from Clevedon to Bristol from September 2, 2024. The X6 service takes you to Noahs Ark Zoo Farm and also to Tyntesfield House National Trust property.
First Bus have also introduced a new service incorporating the town centre and South Road loop currently covered as part of service X5. The new 5 route incorporates the town centre, seafront up to and beyond Knightstone Island and Birnbeck and along to Grove Park. This is the timetable and route map from September 2, 2024.
There is also the new on-demand WESTlink bus service which has been operating from April 2023. To find out more about this WESTlink service click here.
The bright green buses are available to book by an app, website or phone and will be part of the largest on-demand bus scheme in the UK, reconnecting communities and offering many people who are currently without a local service the opportunity to get back on the bus. As part of the trial period, the buses will cost £2 per adult, £1 per child, and concessionary bus passes are accepted. These prices will then be charged at standard commercial service costs, in line with Government guidelines from July. The service will run Monday to Saturday 7am – 7pm. There will not be a service on Sundays and Bank Holidays. Areas currently covered include some of Weston, Nailsea, Clevedon, Portishead, Bristol Airport and Chew Valley.
