Raise a glass to our favourite pubs
29th June 2023
Weston is blessed with some amazing pubs so you will never be short of choice. We've got family pubs, backstreet boozers, pubs with a view, foodie pubs and hostelries with entertainment laid on. If you want it, Weston has got it.
Therefore, when it came to compiling our particular list of favourite pubs it was perhaps hardly surprising that we couldn't just stop at our normal limit of just five recommendations. We overspilled by some margin but never mind, Here goes our list of.... err, 11 of our favourite boozers in and around Weston-super-Mare.
Black Cat, 135 High Street
Weston’s first micropub may be small, but it is mighty! Welcoming, friendly and uncompromising on quality, The Black Cat is the place to go for cask and craft ales, lager, fine wine, artisan gins and spirits, plus an excellent range of ciders, and great bar snacks.
The pub also works with local eateries, The Stable Cafe and The Strange Catch Fish and Chip shop, to order food in for special nights, and a resident acoustic duo serenade punters regularly. The reviews speak for themselves!
The Woolpack, St Georges
The Woolpack Inn is a family-run pub serving homemade food, excellent wood fired pizzas and fantastic Greek food. The large outside space here means it's popular with locals when the sun is shining and they’ve just added a funky firepit area, that’s perfect for al fresco drinks with friends. There’s also a farm shop/deli here should you need to stock up on gorgeous groceries before you head home!
Brit Bar
Enjoy a bit of live music with your pint? Or perhaps you like to get up and belt out a tune yourself? The Brit Bar in Weston runs an open mic night every Sunday from 7pm till 11pm and has become a venue for talented, aspiring, local musicians as well as a beloved boozer for real ale lovers.
Proud Bar
Proud Bar is a colourful and inclusive venue for the LGBT+ community. The bar plays host to fabulous weekly acts - from cabaret to karaoke, quizzes and themed DJ nights. Go for the kinship, party vibes and cocktails with a hint of fruit and glitter.

The Stable Games Room is Weston's first board game pub and a friendly, welcoming space for gamers old and new to explore a library of hundreds of games, with expert staff on hand to make recommendations and help with the rules.
Alongside the games, visitors will find a courtyard garden, tasty homemade food and a fantastic range of draught, beer, wines and spirits.
Fork ‘n’ Ale Taproom and Kitchen
Hand-crafted local ales, a marvellous gin shelf, unique rum selection, comfy sofas, friendly staff, exceptional home-cooked food, live music nights, quirky decor, an onsite taproom and extensive wine list - The Fork ‘n’ Ale ticks literally all the boxes on the ‘ideal pub’ checklist! Having opened in the town centre in 2019, they’ve deservedly gone from strength to strength. Be sure to try their Sunday Roasts.

For stylish, grown-up drinks, head to The Vaults. The lovely team here serves fantastic wine, beer and spirits, including an exceptional gin collection and fabulous cocktails. Look out for special themed evenings such as ‘cheese and wine night’, sea shanty soirees, afternoon jazz and more.
The Old Kings Head, Worle
The Old Kings Head in Worle is the oldest licensed premises in the village and has been run by the same family for over 30 years. Like any good Somerset watering hole, it has an array of local ciders plus cracking beers and home-cooked food. In summer, their beer garden with children’s play area, bbq/fire pit area and heated seating pods is great for whiling away a sunny day - especially when musicians take to the outdoor stage.
The Old Inn, Hutton
For over a century, The Old Inn has been at the heart of the community in Hutton. Inside, the chef whips up scrummy creations and daily-changing specials from locally-sourced quality meats, fresh fish and seafood, to wash down with an excellent range of beers, wines and spirits. Outside there’s an all-weather outdoor space for sinking a pint and tucking into tasty food on sunny days, as well as a log burner inside for colder climes.
The Queens Arms, Bleadon
Oozing character, the original section of this pub is a Mendip cottage dating from the 16th century. Now part of the small Bristol-born Butcombe Brewery chain, The Queens Arms retains a traditional inn atmosphere with open fires, beamed ceilings, great beers, good food and a warm welcome from owners Alan and Kerrie. There’s also a new, covered and heated outdoor seating area for al fresco drinks in warm weather.
The Ship Inn, Uphill
The Ship Inn in the village of Uphill claims the title as the oldest pub in Weston-super-Mare. A pool table, dartboard, jukebox, Skittle Alley, Quiz Night and live sports screenings provide extra entertainment for pub-goers. Don’t miss their ‘hanging chicken skewers’, best-selling Scotch eggs and Somerset honey from their own hives.
