Weston-super-Mare is one of the UK's most popular traditional seaside resorts, attracting people from all over the country. Its long sandy beach, adorable donkeys, Grand Pier and flat two-mile-long promenade make it a magnet for day-trippers and for those seeking weekend breaks and summer beach holidays.

Did you know?
The Beatles played for six consecutive nights at the Weston Odeon in 1963 and posed for many famous photographs on the beach. There is a plaque at Anchor Head marking their visit and the spot where they posed for that timeless photograph on the rocks.
The famous cover for Oasis' smash-hit single Roll With It was taken on Weston-super-Mare's beach. The group posed for it while making a stop-off en-route to the Glastonbury music festival.
Weston has plenty of attractions including its famous Grand Pier, Europe's largest helicopter museum, a children's waterpark, indoor and outdoor crazy golf as well as Laser Quest, axe-throwing, ten-pin bowling and a town centre museum featuring a Banksy exhibit!
And if you're still looking for more, there's a spectacular indoor climbing centre, a 40 foot-high ferris wheel, as well as lock and code escape rooms.
The iconic Grand Pier dominates the main beach and as well as being a one of the resort's biggest landmarks. It also houses an indoor go-kart track, numerous rides and amusements as well as boasting some of the best views of Weston. The pier also hosts several events throughout the year.
Did you know? Weston's Grand Pier opened in 1904 but was twice ravaged by fire, first in 1930 and then again in 2008.
Weston has two piers. The Grand Pier and the derelict Birnbeck Pier which is currently subject to a planning application which could see it rebuilt. Originally the piers were landing stages for boats coming from Wales full of passengers looking to take advantage of England's more relaxed licensing laws.
Europe's largest helicopter museum is in Weston super-Mare and features more than 100 Rotary wing aircraft from all over the world including two of the Queen's Royal Flight helicopters, the current world speed record holder G-LYNX which can fly at 400 km per hour, plus many more. For that extra special experience you can even book a flight over Weston bay on some days.
Did you know? Cardiff to Weston was once one of the busiest UK airline flying routes.
Banksy's iconic pinwheel is housed in Weston Museum. The museum also features items of clothing that you can try on, such as a swimming hat similar to the one worn by Weston's four-times Olympic gold medalist Paulo Radmilovic, It is also home to Clara's Cottage - a full-size Victorian house.
Street art is big here in Weston-super-Mare with some of Europe's top painters having sprayed our walls. Follow the street art trail or freestyle your own tour keeping your eyes peeled for giant animals, underwater scenes, portraits, witty captions and even an Oriental street scene.
Lying on the outskirts of Weston-super-Mare is Puxton Park a one-stop day out for families with young children. It's full of rides, attractions and farmyard animals.
If you're looking for a fun-filled activity that will put a smile on even the most bored of teenagers' faces then step forward into this real life laser adventure zone where it is a question of zap first or be zapped.
Featuring the UK's highest vertical drop slide and the daring Leap Of Faith experience, Weston's indoor climbing centre offers a brilliant and safe alternative to the cliffs at Uphill and Brean.
We've got links golf at Weston Golf Club, two crazy golf courses on the seafront as well as glow in the dark crazy golf at Revo.
Who doesn't enjoy a game of ten-pin bowling? There's plenty of lanes at the Allstars Bowl where there are also futuristic darts boards and shuffle boards
It's played all over France... and now Weston has its own petanque or boules court at the far end of the Beach Lawns which is free to use.
Experience stunning coastal views from the top deck of the open-topped Coaster bus. Head in one direction to the unspoilt Sand Bay beach or catch it in the other direction to Burnham to see Britain's shortest pier, a leaning church and a lighthouse on stilts which many people say looks like a Punch and Judy stand!
How far can you stretch £6.50? The answer is 40 feet - that's how much it costs an adult to ride the 40ft high ferris wheel which offers unrivalled views of Weston.
If you're looking to relax, Weston has some lovely parks and gardens. Grove Park provides a beautiful green oasis in the town centre and also plays host to free summer bandstand concerts and events. The park, which has plenty of seats and benches, includes ponds, different areas of interest and also Jill's Garden - an area dedicated to the memory of former Weston schoolgirl and BBC television presenter Jill Dando. It was created by members of the BBC's Ground Force team. There's also the Prince Consort Gardens, which overlook Birnbeck Pier, and where you might be overlooked by several pairs of eyes belonging to the sculptures of faces hiding in the walls around the pond.
Just behind the Beach Lawns, which also include the See Monster Garden and the free-to-play petanque court, there is also Clarence Park and Ellenborough Park. For those a little further from the town centre, there is also the delightful and large Ashcombe Park.
With two theatres, two cinemas, a fringe theatre and a lively music and comedy scene there's never any need to stop enjoying yourself once the sun goes down. There's a huge choice of pubs to suit every taste and an excellent choice of restaurants as well.
Weston is wrapped by glorious countryside on all three sides of its bay making it a fabulous base for a day's walking or a hiking holiday in some of Somerset's most spectacular scenery. Many of the walks can be done straight from your hotel without the need of a car.
We know we're biased but if you're looking for a walk with spectacular views we can't think of many better anywhere in the country than this three-miler across Brean Down taking in the historic Palmerston Fort. If you're only going to do one walk while you're here, make sure it is this one.
This eight-miler starts in Weston town centre and takes you out past the spectacular cliffs at Uphill, through the nature reserve and through rolling fields to Brean.
A stunning headland walk with superb 360 degree views out across the channel to Wales. This walk will both suprise you and amaze you with its incredible views and variety. Lap it all up by packing your sandwiches and dropping down into one of its delightful coves for a picnic.
Watch the landscape change as you stroll south along the beach to the pretty village of Uphill with its boatyard nestled beneath the cliffs. Then, climb the hill to the Uphill Beacon viewing platform to milk in the views from a superb elevated position. Don't forget your camera!
Climb into Weston woods where you will be met by a series of paths offering glimpses of Weston on one side and Sand Bay on the other. You can freestyle your own walk or take the circular walk to Sand Bay and back, taking the high route out there and the low route back. Alternatively catch a bus back.
The attractive village of Uphill offers plenty of pretty off-road walks which you can freestyle yourself.
Weston is situated in magnificent walking country making it ideal for ramblers as well as Sunday afternoon strollers. We've got coastal walks, hikes in the Mendip Hills as well as walks to go and see something special. Here's just a few to whet your appetite.
A delightful circular coastal walk taking in Clevedon's historic Victorian Pier and climbing up and over the headland for memorable views.
Only available at low tide, so check the tide times before venturing out on this beach walk from either Brean or Burnham to see the SS Nornen shipwreck on Berrow Beach.
If you like your walks with a bit of a climb and rewarding views then this should be high on your list. This is a brilliant snapshot of some of the many walks you can have on the spectacular Mendip Hills.
It sticks out like a beacon as you travel south down the M5 and is certainly worth making a detour for. The views from the top are exceptional and the landscape at the top is something else.
North Somerset has three of the UK's most quirky lighthouses - and two of them can be seen in one walk from Portishead.
Billed as being three miles, it feels more like six and it may make you envious of the wild goats that cling to the crags and climb the gorge's steep sides with ease! The steep ups-and-downs are well worth the effort though affording exceptional views as you walk a full circle around the gorge.
This corner of Somerset offers some great cycling options whether it's tough muscle-burning climbs into the Mendip Hills or more sedate flat rides.
This an easy eight mile out trip largely on a purpose built cycle track to Brean Down, the large shoulder of land sticking out into the sea that you can see from Weston beach.
The Strawberry Line goes from Yatton Railway Station to Cheddar largely on a disued railway route. It slices through the Thatchers Cider business with its pretty orchards and takes you through the incredible Shute Tunnel into Axminster and Cheddar. It's another relatively easy ride.
The Pier to Pier route is brand new for 2024 and when it is officially opened it will link Weston Pier to Clevedon Pier 12 miles away.
The Sand Bay dirt jumps, in the woods at Sand Bay, are for daredevil riders who demand more thrills than your other riders. These incredible jumps attract riders from all over the south of England and if you don't want to join them flying through the air on most weekends certainly try to watch them. Fearless and spectacular!
There are some cracking days out within easy reach of Weston-super-Mare and if you were to do all of them you'd probably want a couple of weeks here. So here's just a few of our highlights.
Explore a magical underground world at Wookey Hole caves. There's two ways to experience these stunning caverns. There's the normal way or, if you dare, The Wild Wookey Way with head torches and ropes!
Who doesn't enjoy a day at the zoo. Noah's Ark has the big favourites, the lions, elephants, giraffes, bears and monkeys but also some adorable farm animals too!
This is guaranteed to be a day-out you'll never forget. The prison, which once housed the Kray twins, is one of the south west's best-loved but most chilling tourist attractions. You will go onto the wings, step into the cells, walk in the exercise yard and you can even be locked up for the night if you choose.
Cheddar Gorge is one of Britain's most breathtaking natural sights attracting walkers, climbers and sightseers. Visit the caves and see where Cheddar Cheese matures. And don't forget to marvel at the goats which cling to the rocky outcrops.
Just 30 minutes away by train, Bristol makes for a superb day out. See the SS Great Britain, The Clifton Suspension Bridge, visit a museum or hunt out a Banksy.
This remarkable National Trust property looks like it has come straight out of a fairytale book with its romantic turrets, pinnacles and sweeping staircases.
Cross the drawbridge over the moat to enter the stunning Bishop's Palace and its gardens. Stop to watch the swans ring a bell for food and don't miss the cathedral or Vicars Close where you will feel like you've stepped back in time.
There's so much more to Glastonbury than its music festival. It's a unique one-off town full of history, myths and legend. Climb Glastonbury Tor, visit its abbey and Rural Life Museum and make sure you leave enough time to explore the town's shops for that real authentic Glastonbury experience.
Take a 50-minute drive to Bishop's Lydeard to catch a memorable steam train ride through spectacular countryside to the seaside town of Minehead.
Waverley Week is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the summer as the world's oldest sea-going paddle steamer offers boat trips out of North Somerset. This year's 2024 sailings go from Thursday, May 20 to Wednesday, June 12. There's an evening cruise from Weston on June 5 and all day cruise on Saturday, June 8. Meanwhile there are several other departures from along the North Somerset coastline, including several from just up the road in Clevedon.
Hard Trance Europe head to Weston-super-Mare for their 2024 weekender on three nights from Friday, June 7 to Sunday, June 9 with more than 50 DJs and artists spread across indoor and outdoor stages.
You don't have to be a petrol-head to enjoy the carnage and mayhem of Banger Racing at Mendips Raceway with fixtures throughout the summer season.

This Friday, June 14 event on the Grand Pier brings together some of the South West's hottest music acts.
You never know who you might meet when you're in Weston-super-Mare especially when Comic Con Stars of Time comes around. So if you're around the Winter Gardens Pavilion on Saturday, August 17, 2024 keep your eyes peeled because you never know who you might bump into.
Live bands, the Greatest Showman experience, ahuge outdoor cinema, with circus workshops and live circus acts are all part of this three day festival at the Mendip Activity Centre from Friday, August 30 to Sunday, September 1.
Prepare yourself for a pirate invasion when the Sea Shanty festival comes to town on Friday, August 2 to Sunday, August 4 where more than 40 bands will perform across a number of venues.
Enjoy rugby and betball with a difference as players from all over the UK come together for Weston’s Beach Rugby and Netball Festival on the weekend of Friday, August 16 to August 18.
Drop into Weston Bike night every Thursday from 6pm on the seafront. Join a Weston-super-Mare institution and watch hundreds of bikers turn out with their machines – some of them, such as a half motorbike and half VW Beetle, have to be seen to be believed. You don't have to be a petrol-head to enjoy this.
Stand among 200,000 sunflowers and pick your own at the Puxton Park Sunflower Farm.
Hundreds of cyclists will create a spectacular sight as they aim to arrive at the Grand Pier in time for one of Weston-super-Mare's famous sunsets on Saturday, June 22. They will have set out at sunrise from Minster on Sea 205 miles away at the mouth of the Thames Estuary aiming to reach Weston by sunset in the annual Chase The Sun ride.
The natural landscape around Weston-super-Mare makes it a great place for adventure sports.
Climbers love the cliffs at Uphill and Brean Down while there is also the fantastic indoor Clip 'n Climb centre in Weston town centre. Blokarters love Weston's flat sandy beach for racing their three-wheeled sailing karts on while kite and windsurfers make a stunning addition to the skyline when a breeze whips up.
For those wishing to try their hand at paddleboarding the enclosed Marine Lakes at Weston and Clevedon offer a reassuring practice ground.
Cavers and pot holers are in their element with so many opportunties for underground fun. There's wild caving experiences at Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge as well as plenty of opportunites to explore deep down at the Mendip Activity Centre.
There's also an all-year-round dry ski slope and toboggan run at the Mendip Activity Centre.
The Mendip Activity Centre is one of two brilliant activity centres nearby with Wall Eden also offering a wide range of experiences including watersports, archery, shooting and axe throwing.
Meanwhile BMX riders and stunt cyclists from all over the country are drawn to the Sand Bay Dirt Jumps at Kewstoke on most weekends to perform some amazing jumps over some incredible jumps which have to be seen to be believed.
Did you know that trains run from Bristol Temple Meads to Weston every half hour and it only takes 30 minutes. The train station is a 10 minute walk to the seafront and high street
