Food Friday - Ice Cream
25th May 2023
Did you know that in Sand Bay sales of doggy ice cream are now rivalling sales of normal ice cream? Or that Westcountry-based ice cream makers Marshfield now sell more tubs of doggy ice cream than they sell tubs of vanilla?
Did you know that PJs in Weston-super-Mare has almost 70 different flavours of ice cream?
And can you settle the argument as to whether ice cream tastes better in a traditional cornet or a tub?
Whichever way we look at it, we are a nation that adores ice cream and as soon as the sun comes out we’re queuing up at vans, hatches, kiosks and shops to get our fill.
Best Ice cream parlours in Weston
We asked the locals, where’s best to get hold of a scoop or two of exquisite gelato, work our way through a sundae, seek out sugary novelties or grab a simple cone with frozen deliciousness plonked on top? Here are Weston-super-Mare’s coolest spots for ice cream, gelato, soft-serve and sorbets.
Fella’s Kiosk
Fella’s Kiosk on Weston’s seafront has been serving good quality ice cream for years. Grab a cone (we recommend a 99 dipped in chocolate with chopped nuts) and try your luck on their Crazy Golf course!
PJ’s Ice Cream Parlour
PJ’s Ice Cream Parlour offers a mind-blowing selection of scooped and whipped West Country ice creams, including vegan flavours, sorbets, milkshakes, coffees, sundaes and gluten free options. Those with a sweet tooth will love the creative Whippy specials bedecked with sweet treats and mouth-watering desserts like the ‘Ice Berger’ - a jam doughnut filled with ice cream, this is THE place to come for a sweet treat!
Bo Bom Gelato
Innovatively and lovingly made every day in fresh small batches, Bo Bom Gelato pride themselves on 100% natural and traditional gelato. Only the finest and freshest of ingredients are used, sourced from local suppliers and directly imported from selected growers in Italy - think pistachios from Bronte in Sicily, or almonds from Mallorca (where their sister Gelateria was established) - before being peeled, ground or squeezed as ingredients.
Based at The Foodworks in Weston, you’ll find them at events such as The North Somerset Show, eatFestivals in Weston, or book them for your wedding!
Kaspa’s, Regent Street
Part of a chain of dessert houses, Kaspa’s offers all kinds of hot and cold sugary treats under one roof. As well as waffles, crepes, milkshakes, cakes and smoothies, Kaspa’s has a whopping selection of ice cream sundaes, with flavours such as ‘Tropical Paradise’, ‘Banoffee Pie’ and ‘Very Cherry’ to Ice Cream Nachos.
