About Us
POP legends 10cc are to headline a summer concert at Weston-super-Mare's seafront Tropicana.
The band, which had hits with songs including I'm Not in Love and Dreadlock Holiday will be the headline act at a series of concerts being held over three days at the seaside landmark next month.
The concerts – known as Westside Proms – are the brainchild of well-known local musician Cliff Moore and events production manager Dean Turner, who owns events production company, Eventall.
The pair had been talking about putting on a music event in the seaside town following the success of Banksy’s Dismaland exhibition at the venue.
Cliff says the concerts will continue to thrust the Tropicana into the spotlight and offer something different to music lovers from right across the region.
Cliff, who has been in the music business for 40 years and is also a lecturer at Weston College said: “Dean and I were chatting last year, around the same time as Dismaland was in town, about putting on a series of concerts. Both of us had been thinking for a couple of years that a music event was needed following the demise of T4 on the Beach. Westside Proms will be something completely new for Weston.”
The event runs from June 17 to 19 and will kick off on the Friday with a concert by British alternative rock band The Wonder Stuff who have had many hits in the past and are enjoying a very successful year, promoting their recent chart album, 30 Goes Around The Sun.
They will be supported by Nottingham based Indie Rock outfit, Ferocious Dog.
Frontman of The Levellers, Mark Chadwick, will open the night, which kicks off at 6.30pm, with an acoustic set.
On the Saturday night, 10cc will be the headline act and are due to be supported by the fantastic Racey and local singer/songwriter, Robbie Coles.
10cc is fronted by original member Graham Gouldman who has worked with 60’s bands including The Yardbirds and more recently has written with the likes of Gary Barlow and McFly.
This is not the first time 10cc has performed in Weston. The band was the headline act at the Midsummer Buzz concert held in the town in 2007 supported by local chart band Racey.
Cliff said: “I saw 10cc nine years ago at the Midsummer Buzz, I thought it would be great to get them back again so I approached them to see if they wanted to involved.
“The band is really looking forward to returning to Weston.”
