About Us
Weston-super-Mare is located on the Bristol Channel coast at the gateway to the southwest of England and is fortunate to enjoy one of the largest naturally occurring beaches in the UK; it is a long, sandy beach that has the second highest tidal range in the world. From the sea wall that runs alongside our level Promenade there are many entrances on the sand, including ramps and steps.
Tens of thousands of tourists flock to Weston each month to enjoy the golden sands and in the winter, the beach is still popular with walkers. Those who wish to brave outdoor water sports and kite surfing can enjoy all sorts of wind-sports at Uphill Sands at the south end of the beach.
Many events are held on Weston-super-Mare beach and seafront throughout the year, which include the Pro Nationals, Weston Beach Race, Weston-super-Mare Air Festival and music concerts and events. On the beach lawns that are across a small road from the beach and Promenade there's a busy schedule of annual events such as the Lion's Club Beer & Cider Festival and the Dairy Festival.
The great thing about the beach is that it's almost on top of the town, or should we say that the town is almost on top of the beach? Nothing is too far away, so if you need anything, there's not far to go.
Weston-super-Mare beach has many traditional seaside activities to offer: donkey rides, children's rides, the Grand Pier, several eateries including The Bay Cafe, located at the former iconic Tropicana Lido, which was home to Banksy's Dismaland exhibition during the summer of 2015.
Weston has lots of opportunities for cups of tea, traditional seaside fish & chips, candy floss, donuts and ice-cream. But you'll be surprised at the huge variety of gastronomic delights that will get your taste buds tingling, with French, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Greek, Seafood and American styles being just some of the too-many-to-list restaurants on offer. All this variety of international cuisine and traditional fare is right along the seafront and in the town centre - just a five minute walk from the seafront.
There are also many beach front shops that sell postcards, kites, buckets and spades all well positioned along the clean and tidy promenade. Please consider beach pollution by taking unwanted buckets and spades, beach toys and of course your litter away with you. The local council keep the beach clean but please lessen their workload!
Safety advice and tide times.
Live tide times can be found here
Our beach is safe and clean with plenty of sand even when the tide is out. Please do not be tempted to chase the tideline when the tide is out though. If you fancy a paddle, walk to the north end of the beach to Marine Lake, where the water is always in whatever the tide is doing.
DO NOT try to cross the Weston-super-Mud towards the sea when the tide is out, you WILL get stuck and will need to be rescued by the Coastguards and Beach Rangers. But rest assured, our beach is completely safe for all ages as long as the warning signs are adhered to.
