The Playhouse Theatre Weston super Mare Open Day organised by The Friends Of The Playhouse in conjuction with the theatre management is taking place this year on Saturday 8th September and follows on from the 2017 Open Day when a record number of people came through the doors!
There will be guided tours from 11am with the last tour taking place at 3pm .You will learn about the history of the building and obtain an insight into the inner workings of your local professional theatre including the lighting and sound areas. The tour will also include exploring the dressing rooms and the ancillary rooms which are adjacent to the stage. Tours are in groups of 15 and last around 60 minutes and no booking is necessary. Entrance is FREE and there will be refreshments on sale in the upstairs bar of the High Street venue.
The Friends Of The Playhouse was formed in 1991 and is made up of around 400 friendly like minded people whose aim is to support the Playhouse Theatre in all sorts of ways. Over the years the Friends have raised funds of over £245,000 which has contributed to providing things like new hearing aids, a new state of the art lighting board, sound equipment and stage curtains and also help support wider fundraising projects such as the provision of a stair lift. The friends also provide volunteer staff to take tickets, sell programmes and welcome patrons into the theatre and assist with marketing and promotions. They also organise social functions and days out and hold regular coffee mornings most Saturdays in the Playhouse Friends are also entitled to 15% discount on a selection of shows each season!
