About Us
Weston Museum will be welcoming all young explorers who love history and archaeology to join a new kids club. The Young Archaeologists Club, which the museum calls ‘Rusty Club’ after their mascot ‘Rusty the Iron Age Dog’ will be launching on Saturday 7th April between 11am and 3pm.
The club will run once a month on a Saturday morning beginning with the launch day at the end of the Easter holidays.
By becoming a member of Rusty Club, children get to join in with fun activities each month, everything from making prehistoric pots to digging for dinosaur bones, as well as going on trips to local historical sites like our Iron Age hill fort. They will also be a member of the Young Archaeologist's Club which is a national club and means members can get discounts for visiting other places around the UK.
Rusty Club is for young explorers aged 8-16 and will cost £15 for 6 months (when paid in advance) or £3 per session.
Rusty is the museum’s mascot, he is based on the skeleton of a dog that was excavated on a dig at Dibble’s Farm in Christon (not far from Weston) and is now on display in the Living Landscape gallery. He lived during the Iron Age, which was a time about 2000 years ago when people lived in tribes and kept dogs for help when hunting. Rusty will soon have his own section on the museum website, where families can find out lots about upcoming sessions as well as information and stories about Rusty and the Iron Age.
