About Us
Music by: ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER Lyrics by: TIM RICEWODS Musical Theatre Company are thrilled to bring the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber classic Jesus Christ Superstar to the Playhouse stage. This powerful and emotional rock opera dramatises the final seven days in the life of Jesus Christ. In a contemporary setting, the show depicts the political unrest caused by Jesus’ preaching and popularity, bringing into question the loyalty of his followers. It reveals the depth of Jesus’ struggle with the expectation of the masses and movingly portrays his human doubts and fears.
Celebrating over 40 years since it first opened in the West End, demand for tickets is always high, whether performed in a small local theatre or in the recent UK arena tour where a record-breaking 74,000 people saw the show in the first week alone.
Ian Pring, recently seen in sell-out show ‘Avenue Q’, gives a mesmerising portrayal of Jesus. Dave Bailey, former front-man of local band Dirty Socket, is compelling as the troubled apostle Judas, expressing a myriad of emotions from disillusion, to frustration, then despair. Amy Badman also gives a heartfelt performance in the role of Mary Magdalene.
With hard-hitting rock themes, including ‘Gethsemane’ and ‘Superstar’, alongside beautiful ballads, such as ‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him’, this show never fails to leave a lasting impression.
