About Us

LT Gallery is offering an on-going series of sessions once a month which will guide you to enhance your understanding, appreciation and interpretation of art. We will look at different contexts for writing about art and the varying styles and approaches. You will be able to develop your own approach within an encouraging and informative environment.
As well as sessions held at LT Gallery, there will be opportunities to visit and write about other current exhibitions as a group.
Introduction to Writing About Art £15
Thursday 14 February 7:30 - 9:30 pm
In this first introductory session held at LT Gallery, a reproduction of a well-known painting will provide the source for discussion and your own notes, taking into consideration technical, historical, aesthetic, social and personal aspects of the work. We will then look at examples of writing available in print and online about the painting.
All welcome irrespective of experience and background. Please bring your preferred materials or devices for note-taking, although we will have some available if required.
David Cuthbert studied at the Central School of Art & Design in London where he graduated in Fine Art, Painting in 1973. He taught at St Martin's School of Art in London for ten years before returning to the South West. He has been painting, exhibiting and teaching since he left college in 1974 and runs The Art Shed at Winscombe with his wife Ros Cuthbert RWA.
Alistair David Todd is a South West poet and playwright who works in the mental health sector running creative writing sessions. He blogs reviews of literature and performances and has self-published two books: the long poem 'The First Man In Space' and the poetic drama 'Breakfast'. His wide range of interests include WG Sebold, Howard Barker and puppets, bringing an open approach to his writing about art.
Gallery owner Laura Tucker, who studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art and has a BA in Fine Art from UAL, will be on-hand during the courses to give any additional input which may be useful; and to gauge requirements for future courses.
