About Us
FAMILY WALK ALONG THE PROM’- SUNDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER 2014Once again the British Heart Foundation (BHF) will be holding the ‘Family Walk along the Prom,’ in Weston Super Mare on Sunday 28th September 2014. This event is in its third year and is a 2.5 mile family walk that begins at Weston General Hospital and will continue along the prom before finishing up at the Grand Pier.
This year we are raising funds for the British Heart Foundation’s Mending Broken Hearts Appeal, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Weston Hospital Cardiology Department.
HELP US WIN THE FIGHT AGAINST HEART FAILURE
When you have a heart attack your heart will suffer damage that can never be repaired. In some people this can lead to heart failure, which in severe cases leaves you disabled and gasping for breath, with a life expectancy of less than five years. Living with severe heart failure is a constant fight for life. Every year, thousands more families have to watch the people they love struggle with the distressing symptoms.
Until now, there has been no hope of a cure. No way to mend a broken heart. But with recent advances in regenerative medicine, repairing a damaged heart is a realistic goal.
Mending Broken Hearts is the most ambitious research programme we’ve ever carried out. We're at a critical stage in the UK's fight against heart failure – please join the Family Walk Along The Prom and help us continue our vital work.
We are absolutely delighted that well-known Charity Fundraiser, Paul Hobbs, has chosen to help the British Heart Foundation again in 2014.
Paul is held in the very highest regard in the local area for the huge support he has given to local charities and he has received numerous awards in recognition of his on-going charity work. These include a Civic Award, a Charity Star Award and a Lord Mayor’s Medal. More recently, Paul has been awarded a British Heart Foundation Heart Heroes award and a Gold Star award.
Paul will be organising the ‘Family Walk Along The Prom’ in association with the British Heart Foundation and he will be looking for support from companies and individuals in the locality.
We would be really grateful for your support with the event- this could be anything from making a donation, to providing opportunities to hold collections in public places. We’d also love you to join in with the walk yourself and spread the word amongst all your colleagues, family and friends. The registration fee for the walk will be £10 per adult, £5 per child which will include a medal for taking part. British Heart Foundation T Shirts will also be available for a suggested donation of £5.
The walk will be optional fancy dress with a prize to the one judged best. After the event, medals will be presented at The Seaward Hotel and all the walkers will be provided with food and refreshment courtesy of our sponsors.
As back up to the event, a charity night is being held at the Traditional Pasty Company, 9 Beach Road, Weston Super Mare on August 28th, 7pm. Support for prizes are welcomed.
