About Us

In conjunction with Every Small Stitch, The Bishop's Palace will be hosting three new workshops. Participants will be able to learn some of the principal embroidery techniques that have been used in the creation of the beautiful artefacts in The Ornate & The Beautiful Exhibition.

Creative Textile Workshop 1: Saturday 2nd July - Luxurious Panel
Get creative and make your own textile panel using sumptuous velvets, braids, metallic threads and beads. This is an enjoyable workshop which shows you how to use very simple techniques to produce stunning textile art to maximum effect. This is suitable for all levels of ability. Your finished piece will be framed for you to take home.

Creative Textile Workshop 2: Saturday 9th July - Decorative Buttons
Create your own unique set of embroidered buttons using a technique called Laid Work, which is deceptively easy to master! If you adore playing with colour and thread you will have fun making these buttons . Your results will look rich and elaborate. Your finished buttons can be used to decorate and elevate a bag, a garment or made into a bracelet. They also look fabulous set within a frame as a piece of textile art. Metal button blanks will be provided.

Creative Textile Workshop 3: Saturday 16th July - Trailing Tendrils
The beauty of nature is depicted through embroidery throughout the centuries and the trailing tendril is a recurring theme featured on many of the exquisite garments in the Exhibition. You will be designing your own small embroidered panel using couched threads and pure silk for your background. You will also be embellishing your work with beads and metallic threads. Some experience in basic embroidery skills is required for this workshop. Your completed work will be framed. Tuition and guidance will be given for each process.

Each workshop runs from 10.30am-4.30pm and costs £28. Lunch is not included but The Bishop's Table will be open from 10am to 5.30pm.
