About Us
The Bishop's Palace is one of the most photographed sights in Somerset. Surrounded by a moat it looks like a fairytale castle from the outside. Cross the drawbridge and it opens up into a stunning medieval palace. There are 14 acres of outstanding RHS Partner gardens to explore, including the beautiful well pools from which the city takes its name. The palace has been home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for over 800 years.
Make sure you look out for the swans in the moat. They have learned to ring a bell whenever they are hungry.
The Palace Gardens are open daily from 10am until 4pm in winter and 9.30am - 5.30pm in summer although there may be restricted access due to events and activities taking place (check the website for details). There are toilets on site.
At Christmas time the gardens are illuminated.
