About Us
The Weston Literary Festival is a four-day event running from October 5 to October 8 across a variety of venue in Weston-super-Mare.
The festival launches at midday on Thursday, October 5 when poets cry out their wares amidst the hustle and bustle of the high street at the Super Wonder Shrine in the High Street. Pause for a minute to listen to their words and inspiration. Then go on to enjoy a poetry installation from young people from Off the Record at Unit 27 of The Sovereign.
Crime writer Edward Burley and science, spirituality and fiction writer Corin Thistlewood are at the Lit Fest Hub, Unit 27, The Sovereign
Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1H from 1.30pm on October 5. This is a free no-booking-required event.
The Front Room, 13 Central Walk, BS23 1FF opens its doors to a National Poetry Day Speakeasy featuring Maggie Harris at 7.30pm on October 5. This is a bookable pay-what-you-decide event.
The Chapter One writing group, launching an anthology of some of the short stories, poems, monologues and memoirs they’ve written will be at Weston Lit Fest Hub, Unit 27, The Sovereign, 21-23 High Street, BS23 1HL from 11am on Friday, October 6.
Also on Friday 6, at 10am in the Front Room, 13 Central Walk, BS23 1FF, are the Shared Reading groups aiming to bring people together through stories and poems to talk, laugh and share. This is a free event but should be pre-booked.
On Friday, October 6 at Loves Cafe, 9 West Street, BS23 1JR there is Rhyme Against the Tide with guest poet Saili Katebe. He begins at 8pm but there is a supper at 7pm. It's a book in advance pay-what-you-decide event.
On Saturday, October 7 the North Somerset LGBT+ Forum are at Weston Library, BS23 1UJ from 9.30am -1pm with their Radical Book Stall where visitors are invited to delve into a range of donated books across a variety of subjects including women’s’ studies, sexuality, feminism and gender.
Crime On The Edge is the subject of science crime writer Brian Price who visits Can't Dance Coffee inThe Sovereign, BS23 1HL at 10.30am on Saturday, October 7.
The art of writing for children is the subject of Adam Fuller's talk at the Weston Lit Fest Hub, at Unit 27, The Sovereign, High Street, BS23 1HL on Saturday, October 7 between 12.30am and 2pm. The event is free but must be pre-booked.
I am Bird by Marie Klimis is an immersive experience for library spaces. Equipped with their own smartphones and headphones, audiences are transported on an adventure across the library, following the extraordinary and everyday story of a young bird migrating from West Africa to the UK. This is at Weston Central Library, BS23 1UJ with time slots from 1pm until 2.50pm. The slots are free but booking is essential,
Childrens books illustrator Paul Bowles, who painted the town's unicorns as part of Unicorn Fest 2023, will be holding a pay-what-you-decide workshop from 12pm-2pm at Unit 27, The Sovereign, High Street,, BS23 1HL on Saturday, October 7. Booking is required for this event.
Jen Reid, author of A Hero Like Me, will be in Waterstones Book Shop in the Sovereign Centre, BS23 1HL at 2pm on Saturday, October 7.
Authors Noreen Masud and Richard Milward are in conversation at Can’t Dance Coffee, The Sovereign, BS23 1HL in another pay-what-you-decide event at Can’t Dance Coffee, The Sovereign, BS23 1HL on Saturday, October 7 at 5pm.
Masud is the author of A Flat Place and Milward is the writer of four novels, including Man-Eating Typewriter.
Why Women Swim is the topic being discussed by swimming writers Freya Bromley, Jenny Landreth and Catherine Joy White.at the Regency Suite, The Grand Pier, BS23 1AL on Sunday, October 8 at 11am in another pay-what-you-want event.
Raynor Winn the one million-copy international best-seller and prize-winning author of three Sunday Times bestsellers — The Salt Path’, ‘The Wild Silence’ and ‘Landlines’ will be talking at the Regency Suite on The Grand Pier, BS23 1AL in another pay-what-you-choose event on Sunday, October 8 at 2.30pm. Tickets are available to book now.
Weston Artspace, at 73 High Street, BS23 1HE is the venue for rapper and poet, Danny ‘Craft-D’ Carlo's Writing for Change – The Poetry of Protest free workshop between 3pm and 5pm. Although this is a free event, pre-booking is advised.
The Grand Pier, Marine Parade, BS23 1AL is where acclaimed writer Madeleine Bunting will be discussing her book The Seaside: England’s Love Affair on Sunday, October 8 at 4pm. She travelled clockwise around England from Scarborough to Weston to Blackpool to understand the enduring appeal of seaside towns and what has happened to the golden sands, cold seas and donkey rides of childhood memory. Again this is a pay-what-you-decide event.
