About Us
This wonder of a by-gone age is little known to the people of Weston but is known to enthusiasts around the world and featured by the American Theatre Organ Society. The BBC broadcast it regularly in past years and it has also featured on more recently on BBC Entertains local BBC shows. Recordings have also been made.
The Compton 3/c pipe organ is the only one left outside of London in its original installation and still playing in a British commercially operating cinema.
Some have been destroyed, some saved and moved to private homes or bingo halls, but this one is original and still playing to the public at concerts presented by the Theatre Organ Club. TOC. www.theatreorganclub.co.uk. Both the cinema and the organ are Grade 2 listed. Built in 1935 all parts are working thanks to a small band of volunteers and the famous and rare mechanically bowed cello can be heard on special occasions.
The next concert to be presented by the The Theatre Organ Club is Sunday 8th October 2017 with two organists of contrasting styles. John Mann & Keith Beckingham.
This concert shall be the first Organ show hosted by ODEON Weston-super-Mare in more than three years, so it is not to be missed!
