Bristol International Kite Festival celebrates 26 years! The Bristol International Festival of Kites & Air Creations will return to Ashton Court Estate, in North Somerset, over the weekend of 31 August /1 September 2013 with FREE ENTRY!Organisers are planning an action-packed aerial extravaganza with international kite guests expected from as far as Kuwait and America to join flyers and enthusiasts from across Europe.
The arena programmes will feature spectacular flying displays, kite fighting battles, artistic kites, breathtaking synchronised routines flown to music and awesome power kites as well as colourful ground-based air creations and banners of all shapes and sizes.
Festival highlights will include:
Spectacular and colourful sea-themed kites including giant swirling octopi and squids, a flying scuba diver, a giant mermaid and Roly the mega killer whale
Special animal shapes including flying bears, tigers, dogs and cats designed and made in New Zealand by festival favourite Peter Lynn
Synchronised team flying routines choreographed and flown to music including The Decorators quad line display team and Scratch Bunnies the current World Sport Kite Team
Champions
The official Guinness World Record holder for the largest kite a colossal 3D Kuwaiti flag
Vast spinning wheels from Italy in support of the Great Western Air Ambulance charity
The brute power of man-lifting kite surf wings and the thrills and spills of kite-propelled buggies and land boards
Aerial combat with traditional Japanese fighting kites each vying to be the last one in the sky
Spectacular ground-based air creations, air sculptures and forests of banners
Free children's kite-making workshops
The Festival programme runs on Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September from 11am to 5pm. To add to the festive atmosphere there will also be fantastic play structures and children s attractions, specialist kite traders, a licensed bar and an array of appetising food and drink.
